Today, we received the official response to our survey from the Policy division of the Progressive Conservative Party.  As you know, we have received personal statements from John in the past but this is the official Party statement.

You can read it here.

Best of luck on October 10, John and thank you very much for taking the time to respond to our questions.

  1. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Way to hurl, DLCC for getting this official statement. John's got my vote for sure.

  2. Thanks very much Mr Tory for issuing this official response.I knew where you and your party stood, along with my Candidate Chris Savard(Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry) because you were kind enough to respond to Mac(My “Pit”),when he and I first wrote you about Breed Specific Legislation and Bill 132.If anyone would like to read Mr Tory`s email,it can be seen here
It`s very refreshing to have politicians that listen and respond with something other than a form letter(if they respond at all).
The fact that you took the time to write to me says a lot about your character and your values. It`s obvious to me that you are the right leader for me.
See you at Sunday dinner Uncle John.
(just kidding folks,he`s not my Uncle!)

  3. Twice I have written to my local PC candidate to ask him about him about Bill 132. The first time on Sept 21 and again yesterday. He hasn't bothered to respond to either. Sort of makes me think twice about supporting him.

  4. I don't know what that comment has to do with the official statement, but I'm guessing you probably weren't supporting that candidate anyway. Just a hunch.
    Which riding are you in?

  5. Lanark, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington. We were planning on supporting this candidate only because of the implementation of Bill 132. However, if he can't even answer a simple inquiry, especially one that has been directed to him twice, then I have to wonder what kind of representation he'd provide. So while we still won't be voting Liberal this candidate's lack of response is certainly pushing us towards the NDPs.

  6. I get where you're coming from. The candidate is new, are you sure he's getting the messages?
My feeling is that, even though my candidate responded positively to the questionnaire, if he hadn't, the official party statement would pretty much cover it.
Whichever way you vote, I'm happy to hear you won't be voting for McGuinty on October 10.

  7. Regarding the candidate who has “not bothered to reply” even though you've written him “twice” in the middle of an election campaign. Have you ever worked through an election campaign? Do you have any idea how busy these people are? Do you have any idea the volume of e-mails, letters and phone calls a candidate receives during a campaign? Or how many hours a day they spend knocking on doors, calling people, speaking at events (either by invitation for single candidate events, or through larger sponsored all-candidates debates). Do you understand that in a campaign, the resources available are incredibly limited, and candidates must prioritize the issues they respond to, to reach the greatest number of people? I'm guessing the answer is no, or otherwise you wouldn't be so quick to judge.
I've worked through a number of campaigns. It truly pains candidates when they cannot personally respond to each and every query, even when they're already working 20 hours a day. But they're only human, and they simply can't get to everything in a 35-day time span, much as they'd like to. It's a shame you didn't write the candidate BEFORE the campaign began, rather than waiting until we were halfway through the writ period before asking your question.
Bottom line: the official PC party stance is AGAINST BSL. That's really all you need to know.

  8. They don't say that they will actually repeal it. The NDP position is much stronger on this issue.
Anyway at this late stage of the campaign, you have to vote for whoever you think can beat the Liberals in your area, even if they're not perfect.
