CKC Special Announcement re: Ontario Election

For immediate release and communication to Canadian Kennel Club members:

THINK TWICE…VOTE ONCE!

As the Ontario provincial election creeps closer (Election Day, October 10) we would like to draw your attention to the position statements provided to the CKC regarding the issue of Bill 132 (Pit Bull Ban) in that province. We have heard directly from all three major contenders; the Liberal Party, Progressive Conservative Party (PC) and New Democratic Party (NDP). Here is the feedback:

PC – “Sound public policy would suggest, in fact require that protection for the public from and against dangerous dogs would have to apply to all dangerous dogs, and to irresponsible owners, as opposed to a particular breed of dog or any particular group of owners.”

NDP – “Ontario's NDP opposes breed specific bans and would support new legislation that truly targets dangerous animals.”

Liberal – “We passed this legislation to respond to the concerns of Ontarians about their personal safety, and we proudly stand behind this law. We believe this law will help protect not only Ontarians, but also many Ontario dogs that might otherwise themselves become the victims of pit bull attacks.”

While the existing government (Liberal) is determined to follow this path, many members of the PC and NDP Parties have been vocal in publicly agreeing that BSL is ineffective.

It is time to question your local candidates and ask if they will commit to working within their Party to remove Bill 132.

The democratic process offers you a choice…choose to have an impact!
