The video link to the show is a must see, but have some Gravol handy. The inevitable waves of nausea, while watching Delaney spew the party line, are not for the weak of stomach. Delaney has had quite a long career in the Fib business. Someone should actually plan an intervention and haul him off to a meeting for Fiberals Anonymous…if only they were anonymous…sigh…
Delaney was the Chair of the public Committee Hearings over Bill 132. To see a concise summary of the public hearings, please refer to the attachment.
On Rogers' Talk Local show last Monday night, Delaney's first sentence out of the starting gate was “3/4 of the hearings supported the ban!” WOW! HOLY BATMAN! Is there not a numeracy test before entering Queen's Park as an MPP? Now my math skills aren't super, however 86 out of 102 presentations opposing the ban does not equal 3/4 in favour of the ban no matter which way you spin it, Delaney.
Liz White (Director of Animal Alliance) did a bang up job under the circumstances. She squeezed in some really great points, between getting cut off and ignored in the discussion showcase for ignorance. If I had been in her position, I would have either been swinging or hurling before the first break. She kept her composure very well. I'm amazed her hair wasn't curled or at least muddy by the end of the interview. The crap flying around the studio must have been hard to dodge! Liz came out looking good, unlike fellow panel member Bobby D.
According to Delaney, the Fib's have been keeping tabs on numbers of dog bites since the ban has taken effect. Gee, that's nice but what about before the ban went into effect? I mean, if you don't have a baseline, how do you know if the pogrom program is working?
Newsflash: Clippings of news articles DO NOT EQUAL stats of dog-related incidents in Ontario! (We all know news media run accurate superficial accounts of ALL cherry-picked dog-related incidents).
There is to date NO dog bite registry in the province of Ontario. We strongly pushed for a registry to be set up, however as we all know, this wouldn't be in the best interest of those who pull information out of their hats. Or is it their asshats? This might accidentally supply hard evidence that, as all other jurisdictions that have implemented bans have discovered, dog bites increase or stay the same after bans are enacted.
Apparently, in another quote from Delaney “We didn't get a lot of mail about the ban.” Only 40 to 50 letters he says?
Bob must be referring to his own constituency office.
Does anyone else remember former AG Michael Bryant yapping about 5000 emails they supposedly received, calling for a ban on 'pit bulls'? Where are these 5000 emails Bryant was referring to? Guess he didn't share them with anyone.
Delaney claims he “he grew up around large dogs”.
Quote:
“The difference if you're around a Rottweiler or other large dog; if you bark or snap at the dog it will stop what it's doing. With a 'pitbull', once it attacks it won't stop attacking until you kill it!”
OK Bob, you seem to be a self-proclaimed expert on large dogs (which 'pit bulls' as you've defined them most definitely aren't, but lets' not quibble).
Can we do an N of 1 trial? Meet us at High Park on Sunday afternoon, say 2 pm sharp. We'll bring the dogs, you bring the bark and snap. We will most definitely step in long before you go ahead and 'kill' the 'pitbull' (whatever the hell a 'pit bull' is). Sounds like a fun game though… You and I both know how well dogs judge character *wink*…wear your Kevelar underpants.
Delaney finally gave us a detailed explanation of “Why the dog breed is banned” (his words).
“What people told them (Fiberals) was, 'pitbulls' wouldn't just play and nip at their dog or play. It would jump at their dog and tear it apart. The owners of the animals that were ripped to pieces would be pounding the dog and kicking the dog… doing everything they could to pry the dog off.. but they just couldn't do it… ” yawn….
Jeepers Delaney! Cut the drama!! Have you been hangin' with Smitherman? For crying out loud.. Did someone say submit this as evidence?
The only profound statement spoken in this whole discussion dog and pony show was at the end when Bozo the Host looked straight into the camera and said “I don't think we've proved anything here tonight”.
Well, you've proved one thing – that this law is indefensible and based on fiction.
Somehow, though, I doubt that was your intent.
I had to watch this in small bits – seeing Delaney is so offputting that I can't take too much at a time.
What was with this show? The host is an absolute fool, nobody got a word in but people on the phone who talked about 'puggles' were allowed to yammer on. btw, those 'puggles' look kinda DOLA to me, better be careful out there, folks.
My favourite moment: When Liz (after a typical lion, tigers and bears call) said that it is fairly easy to get those kinds of animals in Ontario, Delaney said “No it's not!!”, you could almost hear the 'nyahh'.
She got it in though and shut him up.
Do they brainwash these Fibs in their sleep or something? They don't make any sense at all when they discuss the ban. I personally wouldn't humiliate myself in public by making these crazy statements but then, I'm not a gutless Fiberal.
Delaney's head is so far up McGuinty's you-know-what that when McGuinty opens his mouth I expect to hear Bobby's voice.
Now I remember why I don't have cable. I don't like vomiting.
Delaney deserves an asshat award for his nonsensical statements. Can we ban politicians that look and behave like weasels? BAN THE WEASELS!!!
Howcum the Fibs sent Delaney, anyway? What's his credibility? To me it's non-existent. Who stuffed the cork in Mikey Bryant's mouth? Ole' Yapper has been pretty quiet since he got that serious demotion. Did he get the “shut up or die” from McSquinty?
How many directions can a Fiberal spin in? Between Delaney's nonsense and Charney's “there's no such thing as a 'pit bull'” statement in court, the Fibs are talking themselves right into a very big hole.
Let's hope they stay there.
