HAS ANYONE NOTICED A PATTERN?

The predictability of BSL is like a poorly written screenplay.
In BC over the past couple months, there has been an increase in articles related to 'pitbulls'. In an article yesterday the title speaks for itself. Rash of dog attacks across British Columbia is the title of the article. An editorial in early May was [...]

TO ALL THOSE CONCERNED ABOUT BILL 138 IN NOVA SCOTIA

The DLCC would like to thank everyone who has written to government andexpressed their concerns……..
We have now entered into another phase of the process.
Bill 138 is before the Law Amendments Committee.
This committee is already aware of the public opinion about the amendments (fromthe MLA's) therefore it is NOT necessary to contact the government or thiscommittee [...]

A HEARTFELT STORY OF STRIFE FROM A CANADIAN DOG OWNER

Several months ago my husband and I had one huge dream dashed into the ground when we found out we could not purchase a home that we fell in love with, in Nova Scotia, due to the fact our dogs were banned. At that point I started to really read through the average dog bylaw [...]

COREN IS BLOWING SMOKE OUT HIS… AGAIN

Well, I am irritated again… go figure.
Just in time for National Bite Prevention Week, Stanley Coren is leading the public to believe one of the most popular breeds of dog are a model for not biting..
Social Mange has a great post. Check it out!

ALTERING ANIMALS COMES WITH HEALTH RISKS

Information about the health risks surrounding altering animals is hitting the MSM.
Caveat had a post on this topic a while back.
MSNBC published an article entitled “Pet sterilization laws raise health concerns”.
Here is an excerpt from the article.
As legislators push for more mandatory spay and neuter laws for pets as young as 4 and 6 months [...]

AMENDMENTS TO OSCPA ACT BEING DEBATED IN THE HOUSE

Caveat has been keeping tabs on the discussion at Queen's Park about the proposed amendments to the OSPCA Act.
Kudos Caveat for keeping up with this issue. I have Bell Express Vu so I don't get the Ontario Legislature Channel. I wonder if the Fibs are behind the lack of Bell customers not having the channel? [...]

RICHARD STRATTON FORWARDS A PERSONAL NOTE TO WTD

Author, (Lori's) comments first:
I must tell you, the very first book I bought about the American Pit Bull Terrier was a book called The Truth About The American Pit Bull Terrier. This book was published in 1991 and was the best selling breed book in 1994.
When I first joined the DLCC, one of my [...]

WHAT IS A TEXAS RED NOSE?

Quote from Sandra Alway, President of the Golden Horseshoe American Pit Bull Terrier Club and Vice President of the Dog Legislation Council of Canada. Sandra has been involved in American Pit Bull Terriers for 20 yrs.

“One misguided person said he had a Texas Red Nose “pitbull” of which there is no such thing. Maybe a [...]

ENLIGHTENING STATEMENTS FROM SURREY

Now here is a kid who is on the ball. The Ontario Fiberals could take some lessons from this kid.
In an article in The Province newspaper today, the young boy who was bitten by dogs said the owners should be punished and he doesn't blame the dogs.
Here is what he said,

Punish owners

BREEDISM, RACISM AND WARPED PARALLELS

In an attempt to show the slanted parallels, here is another fine example of how the main stream media create the hysterical atmosphere toward certain breeds of dogs. Of course dogs are not the only subject/s the MSM pick on, but it is the subject that most ticks me off at the moment.
In an article [...]

ONTARIO A HAVE NOT PROVINCE?

The only criticism I have for Jim is he neglected to use banning 'pit bulls' as an example. Jim has been very helpful to our plight. We have several pictures of him in our picture file here on the blog.
McGuinty better get his head out of his a$$. We are quickly becoming a have not province. I [...]

HEADS UP IN BC AND ELSEWHERE

On Sunday there was a high profile dog attack in Surrey, BC. Here is a link to the story.
Another typical, owner negligent, dogs on the loose in a playground. Typical from the standpoint of 'pit bull' story, media hysteria, naming a non existent breed of dog.
Another unfortunate child gets bitten by dogs and the irresponsible owner [...]

HOT VIDEO ALERT!

Our very own Selma Mulvey of the DLCC presented to the Mississauga Council regarding owner visitation for animals being held at city animal services. The video is now available at Mississauga Musings.
One week later Mississauga Council voted unanimously in favour of owner visitation.
Social Mange also has the story.
Great job Selma! Yah to Mississauga!
